Instructor
John Ross (JR) brings over 15 years of Division 1 College experience. A four-time letter winner from 1989 to 1993 and the most valuable player of the 1991 Aztec men’s volleyball team, John Ross was San Diego State’s associate volleyball coach from 1996-2009. Ross was heavily involved in all phases of coaching but works specifically with the middle blockers. In addition, he was responsible for recruiting and helping administer drills in practice. He also ran the summer Aztec Volleyball Camp and was co-director of Club Pacific. During the 2009-2010 year John moved to San Antonio where he was co-director of Extec Volleyball and head coach of the Girls 15 Open team.
An exceptional middle blocker during his career at San Diego State, Ross finished the 1991 campaign ranked third in the nation with a .426 hitting percentage. He was also ranked among the top 15 in the country in blocks per game. During that summer, Ross was the captain for the Olympic Festival gold-medal winning team. Despite missing the 1992 season with chronic knee problems, the Chatsworth native bounced back to captain the 1993 Aztec squad, leading the team in total blocks with 127.
Ross graduated from SDSU in 1993 with a degree in public administration.
JR will bring an abundance of passion and knowledge to the CTK Volleyball Camp. He is looking forward to keeping the Lions improving on their growth and success.
Coach Ross has over 20 years of experience coaching and running camps.
The camp itself is an all skills camp. Campers will be taught fundamentals of all volleyball skills through demonstration, teaching and high repetition. Drills will move from individual skills to team skills to competition.
