As part of our parish’s commitment to serving the needs of the whole child, we are excited to launch the Rainbows program beginning on Tuesday, October 18. Rainbows is an internationally recognized organization that provides peer support groups for children who are dealing with the emotions that result from a core-family loss such as death, divorce, deployment, deportment, incarceration or abandonment. The Rainbows curriculum emphasizes listening and communication skills to help participants sort out confusion, anger and other emotions. Participants will gather weekly for confidential sessions with their peers and a trained facilitator, and they are guided through activities and reflections designed to help them better understand their grief and thus begin the healing process.
.
The Rainbows program will meet at the Cathedral on Tuesday evenings, and the program is free and open to parish and school families. A Parent InformationSession will be held on Tuesday, October 11 at 7pm. Group sessions for children in grades 1 through 8 begin at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 18. In addition, the Cathedral is seeking volunteers to serve as Facilitators for the Rainbows program. In this role, you will lead peer-support groups for children in grades 1-8. You must be over 21 years of age, be able to maintain the confidentiality of the group you are facilitating, and not have suffered a core-family loss yourself within the last 12 months. Facilitators are provided with training, curriculum, lesson plans and all materials. For more information, please contact Kristen Felty, CTK’s Rainbows Coordinator and Facilitator, at ctkrainbows@gmail.com.
