A Message from the Pastor
July 30th, 2010We’re pleased to announce that PHENA and the Cathedral of Christ the King have reached an agreement that addresses the Cathedral’s need for growth and PHENA’s need to preserve the neighborhood aesthetics and scale. The legally binding agreement was signed by the Archdiocese of Atlanta and PHENA. It supplements, and adds detail to, the conditions already included in the Special Use Permit.
The following is a summary of the twenty year agreement:
The Cathedral will not expand its campus beyond its current boundaries for purposes other than single family use.
The playground (called the Courtyard Park) currently under construction, will have security lighting and an unimposing fence and may be used as follows:
From 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., weekdays during the school year.
From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for Vacation Bible School and summer Day Camps.
From 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays. After 3:30 on Sundays no more than 25 persons may use the playground and only for uses not officially organized by the Cathedral or school.
From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays the playground can be used by no more than 25 persons and only for activities not officially organized by the cathedral or school.
The cathedral can secure exemptions to the above for special events no more than five times per year – with 30 days written notice to PHENA.
Benches, statuary, fountains, Astroturf, paths, retaining walls and decorative walls are permitted. Alcohol (unless during a Cathedral or school sponsored event), cooking, permanent picnic tables, playground equipment, loudspeakers and league or intramural play will not be permitted in the playground. No enclosed buildings may be built on the playground until 2020.
The Courtyard Park will be secured and monitored by the Cathedral.
We’re delighted to have reached this agreement and we thank the many volunteers in each of our organizations who gave so much of their time to make it happen.
