Dear Cathedral Family,

January 25th, 2010

Fr-Frank-2010As pastor, one of my joyful obligations is to ensure that our beautiful Cathedral and its furnishings are preserved and protected. When I came to the Cathedral last year, I was told that one of our crown jewels, our pipe organ, was in need of significant renovation. Built by Goulding and Wood, it has seen twenty years of service, lifting our spirits and enriching our liturgies. To assure the organ’s continuing reliability and highest quality performance, we must now take the time and make the financial investment to thoroughly clean and refurbish the organ and its pipes.

With the approval of the Finance Council and the not-so-gentle urging of the Music Department, after much consultation, we have signed a contract with Goulding and Wood, the original manufacturer, to bring our organ back to its highest quality. This work will begin immediately.

A digital organ, which replicates many pipe organ sounds, will be placed in the gallery while the renovation is underway. We are planning (and praying) for the renovation to be completed by Easter. In the meantime, watch our progress as we preserve one of our greatest treasures.

May God bless you.
