My Dear Friends in Christ,
Each year, I lace up my running shoes and start training for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memphis, Tennessee Marathon/Half Marathon/5K in December. I have been joining other committed individuals to raise funds and awareness for the life saving work St. Jude Hospital does in the field of childhood cancer. St. Jude is the first and only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center solely focused on pediatric cancer. It is “a hospital without walls” as it freely shares all of its research with the world at the wish of the founder, Danny Thomas.
“Team Andrew” was started in honor of a kindergartener I know. Andrew was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002, when he was a kindergartener; he’s now in the 8th grade and wears a body brace 22 hours a day. St. Jude was the only pediatric cancer hospital to have seen and successfully treated this type of tumor. “I think I owe my life to St. Jude. The care I’ve been given over the years is great.” Andrew says. “Team Andrew” has raised over $100,000 to fight cancer in the last three years.
For the second year, I am going to join “Team Andrew” in their 5K walk because I want to support Andrew and many of our young people who have had to deal with cancer in their lives. Andrew has been an example of courage and faith. I am honored to be part of the “Team Andrew” and I ask that you would consider sponsoring me in this endeavor. You all know the athletic person that I am!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
